The sea between us

The sea has long served as a metaphor for the human condition. Its openness suggests both exposure and the promise of renewal. In this series, the seaside becomes a space where contemporary life reveals its contradictions: collective presence paired with emotional distance, movement without encounter, proximity without connection.
Figures inhabit the same landscape, sharing time and rhythm, yet often remain enclosed within themselves. Gestures repeat, paths overlap, and the act of being together does not necessarily produce communion. What emerges is a quiet form of alienation, not born of solitude, but of constant coexistence.
Within this condition, however, moments of simplicity persist. Unassuming actions, rooted in care and attention, suggest another possibility—one grounded in closeness, tenderness, and shared presence. These moments do not resolve the tension, but interrupt it, offering brief openings toward connection.
The sea, in its continuous motion, holds these opposites together. It becomes a mirror of the present: a place where isolation and belonging coexist, and where the search for simplicity appears as a fragile, yet essential, gesture of resistance.
