There is a certain poetry in the fact that Christie’s Paris is devoting an exhibition to Jean-Marie Périer at the very same time they are exhibiting the Roger Thérond Collection. Once again, these two figures of Photography find themselves within the same walls, a short distance from 63 Champs-Élysées, the building of the Filipacchi Publications where they saw so much of each other, often alongside Jean-Jacques Naudet, who would surely have been amused, and no doubt touched, by the“coincidence” Christie’s offers us. As for myself, I don’t believe in coincidences. A fourth name, in fact the first one, imposes itself: Daniel Filipacchi. Without him, the other three might never have met, and for myself, without him, I would certainly never have known them. What wonderful company! Nostalgia, you’ve got us in your grip……

Christie’s presents this summer an exhibition devoted to Jean-Marie Périer, an essential figure of the 1960s photography. Through a selection of 27 large-format prints, the exhibition celebrates his singular eye and the privileged relationship he forged with the greatest icons of his era. Between spontaneity and staging, his portraits capture the energy of a generation and the spirit of an age. From music to cinema, these images bear witness to a moment of unprecedented freedom and creativity.
