China: A Century in Photos by National Geographic France

Preview

A new special edition of National Geographic has just hit the stands. Devoted entirely to China, the issue explores the country from province to province through archival photos spanning more than a century.

“Since 1900, National Geographic has published over 250 reports on China. These archives are a unique treasure. Our journalists walked the streets of cosmopolitan Shanghai in the 1930s. They saw the disciplined columns of the Red Army enter Beijing in 1949. They attended the delusional Madame’s Mao’s operas during the Cultural Revolution. They were also there in 1978, when the army of the first emperor was unearthed… They witnessed, recorded and photographed History as it was taking place. This selection of photographs is an exceptional first-hand account of the country’s downward spiral and resurrection.
Join us on a journey through time, with explorers, severed heads and floating cities.
Welcome to China!”
Jean-Pierre Vrignaud, Editor-in-chief
