The Charles Nègre Museum of Photography in Nice is dedicating an exhibition to Lionel Kazan. Until May 21, 2023, “Lionel Kazan. Un air du temps” embraces the fashion of the 1950s and 1960s through eighty photographs, and a selection of fashion magazines and unpublished audiovisuals, including a report by Dim Dam Dom bringing together the photographer and his wife-star model as well as an interview with journalist Claude Brouet.
Monegasque of Russian origin, Lionel Kazan worked between Paris and New York. For the first time, photographs taken for French (Elle, Nouveau Femina, Marie Claire) and American (Vogue, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar) fashion magazines are brought together.
This exhibition offers several readings, sociological or aesthetic, and brushes the history, the history of fashion and the history of fashion photography.
