Carine Roitfeld, –Cult Figure

Preview

Fallen from her throne last year, you would never take this mistress of shock for a deposed queen. The “little people” of the fashion world can’t stop idolizing her.

Icon. Muse. In fashion-speak, these are the only tones allowed when discussing Carine Roitfeld, 57, former editor-in-chief of French Vogue and scene fixture for the past thirty years. Fashionistas who admire her half-bourgeois, half-prostitute allure and Iggy Pop bangs greet her with an ecstatic “Caaaaaaaarine!” Other editors, baronesses and the rest of the high-and-mighty opt for the drier “Carine,” as if they could minimize the place of the photo stylist-cum-cult figure.
