Bruxelles : Barbara Iweins, Bath

Preview
Atelier Relief is a new exhibition space based in Brussels.  At the moment, it is presenting “Bath“, a new exhibition of photography by Barbara Iweins.
Barbara Iweins is a photographer who, until recently, lived in Amsterdam.  She’s back in Brussels and is bringing to Atelier Relief her photographs of bathing women, a collection of vulnerable moments immersed in milky waters of mints, pinks, and blues.
The Bath series captures these moments of relaxation and tranquility.  The artist is known for capturing these singular moments where people let down their armor to be fully themselves.  One of these recent projects, “7AM/7PM”, was centered around portraits taken when rolling out of bed.  Losing oneself in water for an instant is also one of these moments in life.  One is far from all worries and troubles.  As she said in her own words, “The silence of water numbs the racket of thoughts…”
The photographs’ silhouettes are revealed in a sculptural fashion through a unique perspective of vertical diving.  It is fresh view on this well known genre of art history,  these modern nudes who emanate all aquatic voluptuousness and sensuality.
