Through February 23, 2014, La Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BnF) will exhibit work by the 2013 winners of their Emerging Talent Award (Bourse du Talent) in the Allée Julien Cain at the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand in Paris.
Created in 1998 by Photographie.com and Picto laboratories, the Emerging Talent Award supports the work of young photographers by naming a recipient every quarter for his or her work on a given theme: reportage, portrait, fashion, landscapes. In 2007 the BnF got involved and now exhibits the work of the winning photographers. This year are exhibited Sandra Calligaro (reportage theme) , Marie Benattar (portrait theme), Armelle Kergall (fashion theme) and Léo Delafontaine (landscapes theme).
Although there’s no cash prize, the award offers recognition and visibility essential for young photographers, expanding their networks and increasing their sales and commissions. Past winners have acknowledged that the award gave them the extra energy to continue working in what can be a challenging profession.
Exhibited alongside the winners is the work of photographers who received special mention from the jury: Cécile Burban, Alexandra Frankewitz, Vincent Gouriou, Mathieu Missiaen, Matthias Pasquet and Elodie Marchand, Georges Pacheco, Sandra Reinflet, TTY and Bénédicte Vanderreydt.
