Sasha Mongin will present her series “Le mourant qui ne mourait pas” for the first time in France, as part of the Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles 2025, at the invitation of the Union des Photographes Professionnels (UPP).
The exhibition will be hosted at the Maison des Photographes, in the Cour des Podestats, during the festival’s opening week.
A Personal Account of Illness and Memory
In this intimate series, Sasha Mongin revisits the story of her father, who contracted HIV following a blood transfusion in 1982. Although doctors gave him only a few months to live, he is still alive today.
The images delicately explore the perception of illness through the eyes of a child, in an atmosphere oscillating between fantasy and reality.
“I remember my mother’s solitude, the silence that surrounded us, and this strange idea that death was part of our daily lives, just like humor, waiting, or love.”
Sasha Mongin creates a photographic narrative imbued with pain, resilience, but also a form of magic: that of childhood and honored memory.
