Arles 2013: Off–Luc Choquer

Preview

This project was born out of an encounter between a photographer and a director in La Bergerie de Berdine, a magical place in the south of France. Founded forty years ago La Bergerie de Berdine is a community of eighty people who come to re-establish their health, often after addiction either to drugs or alcohol. Some stay a few months, while others have been there for twenty years. Still others have died there. At the moment, one of the residents is a young baby (along with parents!).

Berdine has a chapel in which there are regular meetings, morning and evening, to discuss things and allow those who need or want to speak to express themselves. There is also a cemetery, a vegetable garden, a place where wood is cut for heating, husbandry (sheep, pigs, goats), some behives, areas for the production of goats cheese, organic bread, ceramics and honey. Everyone in the community comes and goes as they please. The only condition is that they participate in the work of the community. Photographer, Luc Choquer, touched by the humanity and heart of the community, regularly goes to Berdine to take photos of its residents.

This event is supported by the Galerie FAIT & CAUSE, La Bergerie de Berdine and Ares association.
