Zineland by Antoine Soubrier: Else

Preview

Designed by the brilliant Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, the revue Else focuses on “the other photography” with devious images that are a far cry from the cult of the “beautiful image” found in other publications. Like the American Aperture and the Dutch Foam, and with an even more daring layout, the 96 pages of Else, now celebrating its fourth issue, are halfway between a magazine and an artist’s book. Starting from its cover, a “deconstructive” approach to photography is apparent, one that dissects photography to understand and reinvent it. The editorial board includes Clément Chéroux, Joan Fontcuberta, Erik Kessels and other critics and artists who forge links between the history of photography and the way it is practiced now, which they do with humor, magic and vivacity.
