Zhang Xiao (??, born in 1981 in Yantai) captures what he considers as anachronistic moments in daily life of people living in the Chinese countryside. In Shanxi (2009), he presents his experience of ceremonials and operas among other celebrations, which occur during the Shehuo Festival. For him this is a moment when « illusion and absurdity finally meet in real life. » The artist’s series is currently exhibited at the Pékin Fine Arts in Beijing until December 28th.
