Youry Bilak will be exhibiting his work, entitled “Scenes from the Front,” at the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette 1914-18 Memorial.
This exhibition explores the conventions of representing war: can a staged photograph, taken on the front lines with real soldiers, be considered a true reflection of war, or is it merely a completely fictional construct?
Youry Bilak traveled to the Ukrainian front with a selection of the most famous icons of art history. His goal? To recreate these artworks with Ukrainian soldiers.
The photographer’s aesthetic approach offers a new perspective on teaching about war images—an issue that the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette 1914-18 Memorial has made a core focus of its mission for many years.
