William Daniels : Central African Republic, Uncertain Tomorrow

Preview

International emergency medical organization Doctors Without Borders presents “Central African Republic: Uncertain Tomorrow,” an photographic exhibition by prize-winning photographer William Daniels’ intimate portrait of a nation often overlooked, even when it has been on the brink of collapse.

William Daniels’ photographs are displayed across two central locations in DUMBO, at the Archway Under the Manhattan Bridge, and the ground floor of 60 Water Street to reach people when they least expect it.

The Central African Republic (CAR) has seen more than its fair share of coups and unrest over the five and a half decades since its independence from France. The current crisis, however, triggered by yet another coup d’etat, is starting to pit a well armed, mainly Muslim militia that is stubbornly refusing to disarm against Christian vigilante groups defending the country’s majority Christian population. William Daniels visited the cities of Bangui and Bossangoa where tensions continue to erupt between rival militia in the presence of French and African Union troops patrolling the streets.

The United Photo Industries Team works with William Daniels and Doctors Without Borders to assist in the presentation of this show in New York City.
