Villa Théo Centre d’Art : Traveling Photographers

Preview

An exhibition entitled « Photographes voyageuses » is taking place at Villa Théo in Le Lavandou; it brings together Shirley Baker, MariBlanche Hannequin, Françoise Nuñez, Agnès Varda and Sabine Weiss.

Each offers a visual language that weaves together movement and contemplation in a humanist approach. The exhibition is introduced as follows:

To travel is to cross multiple borders… For a woman, it is sometimes to cross barriers that go beyond geographical boundaries. It means reclaiming public space and deployed beyond assigned territories. It means refusing invisibility and making movement a field of emancipation, where each step and each image becomes an affirmation. The artists in the exhibition “Photographes voyageuses” have crossed continents with a singular eye, attentive to simple gestures, fleeting atmospheres and the stories hidden behind every image. Their solitary journey is never mere wandering: it is a sensitive commitment, an exploration of social realities, cultures and memories.
