Vannes Photos Festival : SMITH : Desideration (stopover)

Preview

Etymologically, desideration evokes the nostalgic feeling of the sailor deprived of the guidance of the stars. With this project started in 2017, SMITH declines various facets of desire and lack of, a call to rediscover his link to the cosmos. Through an interdisciplinary approach: photography, music, installation, performance and video converse with astrophysics or philosophy. Co-creations are born with other artists, such as the writer Lucien Raphmaj, the Diplomates studio or the performer Nadège Piton. Désidération introduces a new form of mythology with metamorphic figures symbolizing the terrestrial in search of the celestial. In Vannes, new thermal photographs are added, blurring the boundaries of the human, the real and the dream.

The “Désidération” project has gone through the Rencontres d’Arles, the MacVal, the Les Filles du Calvaire gallery, the Fresnoy, and the Planches Contact festival in Deauville. After studying philosophy, SMITH joined the School of Photography in Arles then the Fresnoy -Studio National des Arts Contemporains. Quickly, interdisciplinarity imposed itself via different mediums exploring the frontiers of human identity – ghosts, cyborgs, gender transitions, relationships with biotechnology and the imaginary.

This exhibition is presented as part of the ONE LIFE Citizen Theme – “Bifurquer, penser et agir autrement.”(Changing direction, thinking and acting differently.
