‘The Reinterpreted Body’ – NUE Gallery

Preview

NUE is a Parisian gallery that recently moved to Valencia, Spain. NUE wants to present a generation of subversive artists whose work is interested in the body, the body in all its representations: ‘Dislocated, disfigured, geometrical, stylized’. The body as a support for claims, questions.

Many artists of international renown have visited the NUE galerie in Paris. Like the Chinese subversive artist REN Hang, discovered by NUE, who died recently, after a dazzling but ephemeral success. But also photographers like Alva Bernadine, Paulina Otylie Surys.

The NUE gallery opened its doors to the public this summer in a space of 90 square meters in the Botanico district, with an exhibition entitled “The Reinterpreted Body”. The gallery presents more than fifty works by nearly 20 artists from all over the world.

Starting with REN HANG, forbidden to exhibit in China, his singular work, full of nudes delicate and yet casual, had earned him a quick recognition in the West, the subject of a monograph at Tashen. Unfortunately gone too early, NUE will honor him by exposing 3 of his photos and this for the first time in Spain.

Lin Zhipeng is one of the most important members of the new generation of photographers who became known through social media. Although very intimate, the photographs of 223 (his nickname) act as a non-private collective diary of a young generation that wants to escape the pressures of society and play with its limits.

Between fashion and subversiveness, the Formentos, also known worldwide, present unseen photographs. This Anglo-American couple travels the world, paying homage to Hitchcock’s cinematography, influenced by feminist photographer Cindy Sherman and the realist painter Edward Hopper. Or Aneta Bartos who stages images with her father in his Polish countryside. It is therefore a long journey that NUE offers, 20 artists, with about 50 works that will invite you to reflect on the themes of gender, sexuality, and more generally of identity.
