Sebastian Alderete, director and founder of the The Music Photo Gallery (TMPG) sends us on a very special collection: a selection of unique vintage prints produced by Daniel Kramer himself in his darkroom between 1964 and 1965. They are accompanied by the following text :

Preserving a Legacy: My Work with Daniel Kramer

Working with Daniel Kramer has been one of the most profound and meaningful experiences of my professional life. Over the course of more than half a century, Daniel created one of the most iconic visual records of Bob Dylan during a period of radical transformation—from folk troubadour to rock icon—between 1964 and 1965. His photographs captured a cultural shift with rare intimacy, precision, and timeless clarity.

What began as a shared admiration for the power of music photography grew into a deep collaboration. I had the honor of curating Daniel’s archive of vintage prints for the first time in his career an essential and unprecedented undertaking, as these prints had never been presented in a structured or historical context. Together, we brought order and visibility to a body of work that had remained largely unseen—true vintage prints, made in the years they were taken, and preserved as living documents of a pivotal moment in modern culture.

Before his passing in 2023, Daniel entrusted me with the responsibility of continuing to represent his archive and legacy. The two boxes of vintage prints I now protect are more than a collection—they are a testament. They reflect not only Daniel’s unmatched eye and sensibility, but also a unique chapter in the history of fine art photography.

Today, The Music Photo Gallery (TMPG) remains the only gallery in the world fully dedicated to fine art music photography with the expertise and focus to manage archives composed of vintage prints, unique works, and early-format editions—true treasures for discerning collectors, museums, and institutions.

TMPG has presented selections of these archives at major international fairs, including Paris Photo (2024) and Photo London (2025), where the Daniel Kramer project was featured in the main section of the fair with curatorial direction by renowned photography historian Gail Buckland.

Representing Daniel’s archive is both an honor and a responsibility. Through TMPG, I remain committed to preserving and sharing his vision with the world—ensuring that his images continue to speak, inspire, and hold their rightful place in the canon of photographic history.
