The Magasins Généraux presents the collective exhibition ‘Simulacres’ from June 25th to September 27th 2026.
The exhibition explores the many ways artists blur the boundaries between reality and appearance. From artisanal processes to the most advanced technologies, it highlights the strategies of mimesis, illusion, and simulation that run through the recent history of artistic creation.
Hyperrealism, perceptual games, digital simulacra, all the way to AI – generated images – the exhibition questions our ability to distinguish between the true and the false.
Between fascination, disorientation, and critique, ‘Simulacres’ thus deciphers the shifts in perception at a time when images are becoming increasingly indistinguishable, where the false and the illusory are no longer the exception but a norm to be understood, outsmarted, or sublimated.
