The Heritage, a Passion, the People

Preview

To mark the 20th anniversary of the Heritage Foundation, the French Senate is presenting the exhibition The Heritage, a Passion, the People on the railings of the Luxembourg Gardens until 15th January 2017.

This exhibition gives value to the exemplary restoration projects, the surroundings of our lives, honouring the mobilisation of passionate men and women, but also the passing on of precious skills and know-how. The leading restorations offer a new life to the properties that are at the heart of national life, supported by returning them to their centuries-old use, or by assigning new functions to these historic buildings. By way of examples of the supported projects in the 13 metropolitan regions and also in overseas France, the Foundation shows visuals rich in meaning: from urban and rural restorations, from the most humble to the most symbolic, from a village wash house to the cathedral in Reims.

All along the 80 panels being shown on the Senate railings, in Paris, the viewer can discover the very large field of activities covered by the Heritage Foundation: rural and city heritage, industrial heritage, memorial places, houses of the famous, sites of integration, maritime and railway heritage, religious, military, natural and cinematographic, heritage of traditional farm animals whose numbers are very small… all sorts of heritage that celebrate the beauty and wealth of our history are eligible for action by the Foundation.

A journey that takes us from the Chappe telegraph station at Sollières-Sardières to the pointed roofs of the Saumur Château, from the Rimbaud museum in Charleville-Mézières to the penal colony on the Salvation Islands (French Guiana), from the railway station at Bobigny, used for the deportation of Jews in the Second World War, to the orangery at the Château of Bonrepos-Riquet, from the bridge at Saint-Cado in Belz to the beach huts on the Isle-Adam, from the work of a master glassworker to Jean Giono’s library in Manosque.
