On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Nevada Museum of Art, this Museum of ideas is releasing « Altered Landscape : Photographs of a Changing Environment », featuring a selection of the museum’s permanent collection. Since its inception in 1990, this photographic collection has grown to include more than 900 prints by leading photographers including Bernd and Hilla Becher, Robert Adams, Lewis Baltz, Edward Burtynsky, Amy Stein, Terry Evans, David Maisel, Olivo Barbieri and Fandra Chang. This selection of over 150 pictures from the museum’s collection showcases human interaction and intervention with the environment, frequently highlighting the devastating effects of man on nature. Far from a display of breathtaking landscapes, typical of 20th century photography, this book is both historical and provocative, and seeks to raise consciousness and ideas.
