Kiki Xue was born in 1986 in China in the province of Sichuan. He lives and works in Paris. While studying mathematics, it was by chance that he turned to photography by collecting the books of the “great masters of photography” before learning the techniques of photography. Since 2010, he has established himself as one of the main emerging figures in fashion photography. He notably won the PhotoVogue prize in Milan and collaborates with Vogue and L’Officiel magazines in Italy, as well as with Harper’s Bazaar in China.
“I work like a film director: I think up my script before I create it. But I am both a director and a screenwriter,” explains Kiki Xue. Also a painter, Kiki Xue is very sensitive to Renaissance art. “I appreciate its bright colors, its effects of depth and play of shadows, and the lights of these masterpieces (…) I also experiment with color combinations in painting, to one day be able to use in photography.
