L’Artiere publishes Song of Silent Water by Mathieu Chaze, a visual meditation on nature — a photobook that prioritizes sincerity and essentiality over contemporary trends. Edited by David Campany. The work gathers images born from long walks and sustained observation of the landscape: a dog in the mist, rolling hills, a tree reflected in water, a solitary heron. As Plossu writes, Chaze’s photographs carry a “secret atmosphere” that speaks directly to the soul, free from technical artifice or passing fashion.
The book explores the concept of sustained time — individual moments not as isolated events, but as fragments linked by a quiet, invisible rhythm, much like the intervals that give shape to a song. Beautifully designed by Federico Barbon and printed in duotone.
Mathieu Chaze is a French-born photographer, raised in Burgundy and now based in the UK, working in landscape and portraiture. His debut photobook, Rock, Paper, Scissors — made during a period spent homeschooling his two sons — brought together portraits and landscapes from the English countryside, reflecting on childhood, family bonds, and time experienced through place. His work is held in private collections internationally.
