Shedding is a photographic work in motion—an exploration of transformation, self-empowerment, and the shifting contours of the body. It began in early 2024 and continues to unfold. Self-portraits and abstract images explore the shifting states of the body, moving between emergence, dissolution, and memory. The work unfolds with fluidity and attentive presence, allowing each image to exist fully in its own space.
At its core, Shedding is about touch—physical, emotional, visual. It seeks closeness, not spectacle, guided by a trust in gentleness and tenderness as political and poetic forces. In a time marked by disconnection, the artist is drawn to proximity: how images can create a space of shared attention where complex and often painful subjects—menopause, menstruation, desire, trauma, memory—are approached not through confrontation but through quiet invitation, through the body.
The photographs do not expose—they offer. They are not confessions—they are choices. They carry the imprint of personal history, including the long, quiet shadow of childhood trauma through sexual abuse. Yet they do not linger there. They move, they hold. The artist has chosen their own body as the medium. Color plays a vital role in this holding. It is neither background nor decoration—it speaks. These colors create an emotional atmosphere, a tactile language.
The abstract images and self-portraits do not illustrate one another; they coexist, speak beside each other, and mirror different states of the same body. What unites them is tone, intimacy, and a refusal to simplify. Shedding is a work about layers—what is seen, what is felt, what remains unspoken. It invites the viewer to come close without intruding. There is always room to breathe.
The artist believes in the radical power of tenderness and the quiet strength found in connection.
