Richard Kalvar: –A Few Observations

Preview

A few months ago, Magnum Photos redesigned its website. It now features a blog where its members can reflect on current events and their profession through words and images. The Magnum photographers are more or less active on the site. John Vink uses the space as his travelogue, whereas David Alan Harvey takes a more promotional approach. Jerôme Sessini posts updates on the the events he’s covering.

Richard Kalvar is using the site to compile his remarks on photography. His tone and the images he shares are playful, and he never claims to know what photography should be. He talks instead about what he knows, and what he has found moving.

Kalvar is one of those rare photographers in whose work we can find a coherence across his decades of work. His worldview has changed little. His tone is direct as he offers explanations and arguments, which only add to our pleasure of seeing his ambiguous photographs, images that reveal new meanings with each viewing.
