The Intervalle Gallery based in Paris, presents its new exhibition “Paradise Stockholm“, series by photographer Joakim Kocjancic. Joakim was born in Milan in 1975. After art school studies in Italy (Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and Carrara) and in England (Master in photojournalism at London College of Communication) he lived and worked in several European cities. In 2006 he moved back to Stockholm, his second city-hometown.
Joakim Kocjancic met Anders Petersen in 2008 after a workshop with Paolo Pellegrin in Oslo. Since then he’s been renting a space in his lab. When Joakim Kocjancic started to show his work to the famous Swedish photographer, they immediately shared their common interest for incredible power of black and white photography and for cutting and poetic scenes of street life.
Joakim Kocjancic uses all kinds of small format cameras, always 35mm. All the material is analogue. All prints are done in the darkroom and he’s printing them. During the printing he uses different tools to create certain effects. After fixing the prints he bleaches them partially to get a nice white or to lighten up certain parts of the prints. Afterword he puts them in a selenium toner to get a richer deeper black. Joakim Kocjancic won the prize for the best black and white Swedish photograph in 2010.
In 2014, he finishes his project “Paradise Stockholm” with the book publisher Gösta Flemming/Journal.
In November 2014, Joakim Kocjancic received a one year grant from the Swedish Art Council Joakim Kocjancic is member of the photo agency Link Image.
