Paris : Anna Di Prospero, Urban self-portrait

Preview

After “Instinct”  in 2014, Anna Di Prospero returns to the Galerie Madé to show a selection of her latest works with the exhibition “Urban Self-portrait”, on show from February 5th to March 12th. “Urban Self-portrait” brings together thirteen photographs that are part of I am here, the first chapter of her work based on the self-portrait.

“Urban Self-portrait” is a work in progress that started in 2010, in which the Italian photographer continues to explore  the connection between bodies. The human body, the architectural body, the inner body, the outer body: she transcends her own being to connect it to what surrounds it.

In these images, a kind of ballet appears between two dynamics, two entities: one made of flesh and the other of glass or steel. In trying to find her place “within” these buildings, Anna Di Prospero gives the urban landscape a different dimension, which reveals a mutual inspiration, a fertile dependence, a buried harmony. Relentlessly exploring the space in which we grow, she has blended into it in a way that is both studied and spontaneous at the same time.

If Anna Di Prospero constructed her body of work with self-portrait from the need to master her creative process, she does not see herself as the protagonist in these images but rather as the witness of the scene  she has created thanks to photography. “Photography is growing with me, and I am growing with photography”, as she is in the habit of saying. Today and particularly with “Urban Self-portrait”, she proves it to us.
