The photography series Eat to Win by Nina Berman explores over consumption and the culture of gorging through photographs of American food eating competitions.
From the family owned pie shop to internationally televised spectacles, these competitions are regularly staged throughout the United States, in small towns, big cities and county fairs, drawing anywhere from a dozen to thousands of spectators.
Whether it’s blueberry pie, hot dogs, chili or chicken wings, these events are characterize by a frenzied energy where in the space of 2 to 6 minutes, all table manners are broken and the ferocity of consumption assumes comic opera proportions.
