Her name: Susanne Junker.
She is presenting an exhibition entitled “So What!” at the Glaspalast Center for Contemporary Art in Augsburg, until July 6th. She writes.
It all started with the Miss Vogue modeling competition in 1989, where I won third place at the age of 16.
This immediately propelled me to Paris and the international modeling world, where I worked for 10 years.
After several years in New York and Shanghai, I now live in Paris again.
However, from the mid-1990s onwards, I began creating artwork myself, reflecting this modeling world, mainly in self-portraits. Over the course of 30 years, this has finally resulted in a body of work, which is currently on display as part of a retrospective entitled “So What!” at the Glaspalast Center for Contemporary Art in Augsburg, Germany.
I believe my career as a model, as well as my artistic reflections on the media representation of female bodies and faces, are elements that may be of interest.
The “So What!” exhibition is open until the beginning of July. Visitors have so far demonstrated enthusiasm and sensitivity.
This demonstrates the crucial importance of developing and offering spaces for projection and mirrors of society.
