The Museum Folkwang in Essen presents the exhibition Germaine Krull : Chien Fou – Writer and Photographer through March 15, 2026.
The estate of photographer Germaine Krull has been held at Museum Folkwang since 1995. In addition to vintage prints and negatives, it also includes the artist’s extensive output in publishing: (auto)biographical and fictional texts, photobooks and maquettes, letters and political reportages. For the first time, this written oeuvre is now being presented on a larger scale alongside numerous photographs .
In addition to the avant-garde photographs of the 1920s and early 1930s, the exhibition focuses in particular on her previously less noticed photographic practice from the beginning of the Second World War onwards.
