Musée Maillol : Elliott Erwitt : A retrospective

Preview

On the occasion of multiple exhibitions, including one at the Maillol Museum, today’s edition is dedicated to Elliott Erwitt.

I really wanted to write about Elliott, whom I love very much.
And then the obvious hit:
There is nothing more to say about Elliott than what can also be said about Doisneau.
Knowing them, looking at them, seeing their images makes you happy!
A big kiss to you Elliott!
With our thanks to the Magnum agency for their help in producing this edition.

Humanism, irony and humor

The exhibition “ Elliott Erwitt. A retrospective” pays tribute to one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, a member of Magnum Photos since 1954. The exhibition is produced and designed by Tempora in close collaboration with Magnum Photos and the Maillol Museum.

The tour presents his work through a set of 215 black and white and color photographs.

American photographer of European origin, Elliott Erwitt is both a painter of the intimate, photojournalist, advertising photographer, director and portraitist of personalities such as Marilyn Monroe or Jackie Kennedy, Charles de Gaulle, Ernesto “Che” Guevara, Alfred Hitchcock , Nikita Khrushchev,…

The exhibition reflects the diversity of the subjects covered and the profound unity of the work. He has a way of immortalizing moments of daily life with a gaze that is unique to him, mixing humor and emotion.

Through an exceptional scenography, you discover the unique sensitivity of the photographer, especially in his color shots.

Also visit behind the scenes of the photographer’s work with the “Factory” space in which there are objects intended to evoke his New York studio and the extent of his activities related to photography.

“In reality, to say that there is humanity in my photos is the greatest compliment I have ever been given.” Elliott Erwitt
