Mitch Dobrowner, Beyond Territories

Preview

Tornadoes, monsoons, lightning and American landscapes are the preferred domains of the American Mitch Dobrowner. The landscape photographs that spring from his many trips are being shown today at the Gadcollection gallery in Paris. 25 often mysterious even mystical, black and white photographs, are being shown.

Mitch Dobrowner grew up on the coast of Long Island, New York. At the age of 21 he decided to leave his job, his family and friends to discover the American South-West. With these intense black and white prints, the photographer has succeeded in reproducing the magic and the sometimes surrealist beauty of the landscapes that surround him.

As a “photographic craftsman”, Mitch Dobrowner gladly acknowledges the influence of the great photographers of the past and particularly that of Ansel Adams, who was always a great source of inspiration for him. “The landscapes are living environments and ecosystems”, he says. “they existed long before us, and, all being well, will still be there long after us.”
