When we speak of African art we tends think of a unique way of making art and disregard the vastness and diversity of artistic styles and techniques specific to each country. Contemporary African art entered the world stage with the show « Magiciens de la Terre » exhibited at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris in 1989 edited by Jean-Hubert Martin. The exhibition brought to the forefront for the first time contemporary African art, equal in importance to that of the other four continents involved in the project. This burst of energy developped a real debate on African culture, stimulating research about contemporary artists living in Africa, their identity and autonomy of thought that deeply enriched the international art scene.
