Michael Lehr Antiques proposes at their photographic auction on January 31st the latest photograph of Abraham Lincoln.
Albumen photograph of President Abraham Lincoln taken on the balcony of the White House on March 6, 1865, just weeks before his assassination, credited to H. F. Warren of Waltham, Massachusetts and bearing the period caption “The Latest Photograph of President Lincoln.” Recognized as one of the final photographic likenesses made from life, the vignetted portrait shows Lincoln in three-quarter profile with a gaunt, reflective expression at the close of the Civil War. A rare and historically significant late-life image preserved in its original presentation format.
The sale features approximately 270 individual lots spanning the full breadth of 19th- and early 20th-century photography.
