Marrakesh : Jellel Gasteli & Abdelwahab Meddeb

Preview

Until 7th May 2016, Gallery 127 is hosting an exhibition about the previously unpublished notebooks of the poet and philosopher Abdelwahab Meddeb, dedicated to the city of Marrakesh. His wife, Amina Meddeb, is making made very effort to publish the author’s unpublished texts on the cities he passed through. It is Marrakesh, the city of which Abdelwahab Meddeb was particularly fond, that will be the first to be put under the spotlight of his manuscripts.

Jellel Gasteli, the author’s friend, discovered the manuscripts on Marrakesh at Amina Meddeb’s house and asked to read them. She entrusted him with the photographic echo of his writings that passionately bring to life the spirit of the city through its maze of alleys, its monuments and its people.

“The spiritual link with Abdelwahab is indisputably present. I knew his work, I knew him as a friend. I pay homage to him in my own way, freely”, Jellel Gasteli said.

The exhibition offers an unpublished series of ten photographs in a limited edition, drawn from Jellel Gasteli;s strolls through the ochre city. It also shows a fresco of Abdelwahab Meddeb, “the pictorial act”, the author’s unpublished manuscripts, videos, portraits and books.
