MAP Toulouse 2014

Preview

This exhibition is the first of its kind. The MAP festival showcases the hidden photographic talents of artists known for their work in other disciplines. Frédéric Stucin is known as a photographer, but more for his portraits than for his wanderings through the streets of Las Vegas, Mexico and New York. Ulrich Lebeuf presents a series of original images taken from Stucin’s street photography.

“Street photography is a physical exercise. Walking moving, wandering, going back, turning, getting tired. You have to scour the crowd, pick out your “prey” and channel the tension. Her? Him? Them? You take pictures as if you were intoxicated, reviewing the results only after the fact, when the fever has died down.

There are two methods to do this: getting as close as possible as discreetly as possible by fading into the background, or by being brutal, provoking the person, not saying anything then running away—fast.

Either way, only the result matters.”
