Lynn Goldsmith : David Bowie

Preview

David Bowie affected so many individuals not simply because of the music he created, but because of the life he lived. In 1973 he presented us with the question, “what is sexuality?”

Wearing makeup, clothes, and jewelry identified with the female personality, he was sought after by both sexes. Married and a father , it was evident Bowie was an artist not bound by the conventions of society to define who a person is. Everything in him as much physically , and in  his work posed the question – “Who are we?”

By 1978 the fury of his performances displayed the kind of testosterone we associate with the male rock and roll star. This move toward a more masculine image continued into 1983 with his dapper suits, while in his personal life it was public that he had lovers of both sexes. Always, Bowie, even if just standing on the stage listening to the music around him, stood with the grace and poise of a super model.

David Bowie lived in the world he created and that became your world. His artistry was not limited nor were his friendships. In his own search for spiritual enlightenment, he helped all of us with ours. RIP.
