Librairie Artazart : Victoire Orth : Corps à Corps

Preview

The nice email of the day, sent by Gil Rigoulet:

Hello Jean-Jacques,

I am enclosing the info for the exhibition of my assistant, Victoire Orth.

She is only 19 years old but she surprises me with her maturity.

I present her as follow…

“Encountered in the chance of life, a look, words, in a draft of the main square of Brussels, Victoire as long as beach grass, the camera on the hip, the fresh eye of an 18 years old has no need for the meandering of a questioning. She poses herself, looks in her sensitivity and explores this natural light which brushes the skin like the intensity of having to live, her world is her proximity, her gaze is her consciousness to build between graphics and emotion. She is hungry for high standards and goes quickly …

Victoire has been assisting me for 8 months, a joy !! ”

Gil Rigoulet

Victoire Orth is a young French photographer. She grew up in a small town near Lyon and then chose the capital to begin her studies in cultural mediation at La Sorbonne. Passionate about photography for several years, she made a happy encounter during a trip to Brussels. Her meeting with photographer Gil Rigoulet first gave rise to a collaboration and then to a beautiful friendship. She first helped Gil sort through his mountains of photo archives and found herself assisting him in galleries, for various events and projects. From shooting to selling, through the collage of images, this encounter allows Victoire to evolve in the various realities of photography. Something burns in her, like a need to further explore her identity, her relationship to the body, to gender … She seeks to explore her link to “femininity / masculinity” by photographing herself in her Parisian studio with a mirror and an analog camera. It is through this journey with herself that in 2020, the Body to Body series took shape. Other characters sometimes enter this intimate bubble even though Victoire keeps self-portrait at the heart of her photography. Woman’s bodies, curves, skin … What is a female body? What is femininity? And what is not? In her images, the bodies lighten up and kiss in front of the mirror or in front of the lens. The feeling of the skin tries to transcend the photograph, like a caress to oneself. Think of the self outside the structures.
