Etienne Clément presents Vision on Emulsion, a series of pioneering architectural photographs at London’s Les Fêtes Galantes. During his career as a photographer, alongside his dioramas shot in studio, Clément has always kept photographing architecture and urban landscape in a Fine Art and interpretative fashion. In this exhibition, Clément presents a selection of compelling photographs (the quality of his highly crafted photographic prints is a joy) from various past B&W series: Night Vision, The Midland Hotel & The Goldfinger series. Often shot at night, when the city is illuminated in ways that render beautiful battered buildings and worn faces, St Pancras (designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott) becomes the stuff of bat-winged Gothic horror, whilst the Lloyd’s building in Leadenhall Street, by Richard Rogers, could be a set-design from Metropolis, and Centre Point, a megalomaniacal concrete bee-hive. Clément does not give the night-time city a romantic gloss; he gets under its worn and familiar skin and takes the viewer to a film-noir.
Etienne Clément runs an Art space Les Fêtes Galantes in London Fields in London where he lives and works.
