Leo Fuchs : Classic Hollywood Stars

Preview

Paul Newman, Rock Hudson, Marlon Brando, Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Sean Connery are among the movie stars captured by Fuchs’s lens and proposed by V&M (vintage and Modern).

Leo Fuchs, who started his photographic career at the age of 14 shooting burlesque queens, travelled the world capturing a veritable “Who’s Who of Hollywood”, both on movie sets and behind the scenes. For the first time ever, V&M (Vintage and Modern), has received permission from the Leo Fuchs’ estate to offer the recently discovered collection of black-and-white portraits of many of the photographer’s famous subjects.

“No one has ever captured classic Hollywood stars in their most intimate moments like Leo Fuchs,” observed Adam Smith, V&M CEO.

Born in Vienna in 1929, Leo Fuchs went from a set photographer to movie producer (Gambit, Love at the Top) after shooting iconic stills of Hollywood luminaries in everyday situations. Fuchs was originally invited to Hollywood in the 1960s by Rock Hudson to shoot set photos of the star’s Universal movies with Doris Day. He soon earned the confidence of other movie icons and was able to shoot intimate portraits, out of the glare of the spotlight, of classic stars such as Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Sean Connery, Shirley MacLaine, Tony Curtis and Montgomery Clift.
