Le Touquet: The Children of Maud Bernos

Preview

The “Ouvrir les Yeux” association is presenting an exhibition of works by Maud Bernos entitled “Carton Blanc”.
The Peace & Sport Foundation commissioned this photographic work about children in conflict and post-conflict zones and their daily use of sports. The photographer worked in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Israël and Palestine. The pictures, taken during the summer of 2011 in the Great Lakes region of Africa and in Israël-Palestine, highlight the children’s faces. The photographer captured how these children manage to transform an otherwise somber existence into magic, making playing fields out of abandoned zones. The creativity and determination of these youth are captured in brilliant natural light with happy, dreamlike and fearless smiles. With simplicity and evidence, the exhibition says more than 1000 words about how athletics light up the road to peace.

Born in Avignon in 1975, this independent photographer lives and works in Paris. Her photographic worth is at once portrait work and artistic reportages. Her dreamy universe, mysterious or tragic, plunges spectators into sensorial atmospheres not unlike realistic documentary cinema.
