Le Point du Jour : Pascal Amoyel – Coline Jourdan

Preview

The exhibition presented by Le Point du Jour brings together Nord-Ouest by Pascal Amoyel and Soulever la poussière (Raising the dust) by Coline Jourdan, winners of the 50 cc – Air de Normandie grant which rewards projects by photographers residing in Normandy.

For five years, Pascal Amoyel has been traveling around Bellême, in the Orne, where he lives. Along the departmental roads and along the sunken lanes, he pays attention to dissimilar spaces, both agricultural and urban, and produces portraits of random encounters. His subtle black and white prints form archipelagos between which the gaze circulates, and represent an indefinite north-west where various lifestyles coexist.

Coline Jourdan investigated the former gold and arsenic mine of Salsigne, near Carcassonne, of which the site bears traces. Accompanying scientists in their field work, her work represents the landscape at different scales and, on a black background, the minerals that make it possible to measure invisible pollution. Combining images and archival texts, Raising the dust evokes a history that is both local and global, which is also that of our relationship to the environment.

The 50 cc – Air de Normandie grant is co-organized by Le Point du Jour and the Rouen Normandie Photographic Center, in partnership with Cadre en Seine and the Artothèque, Caen Contemporary Art Spaces.

Pascal Amoyel and Coline Jourdan have benefited from creation aid from the Normandy Region for their projects. Coline Jourdan has also received support for documentary photography from the National Center for Arts.
