La Galerie de l’Instant presents the exhibition La Mémoire du Geste through May 31, 2026. Julia Gragnon writes:
For this third exhibition devoted to Dance, we wish, of course, to highlight the beauty of bodies, of movement, and the deep imprint left by those moments that are sometimes suspended in time and unforgettable for so many of us… Seeing Sylvie Guillem perform in “In the middle somewhat elevated” by Forsythe, Nicolas Le Riche in “Boléro” by Béjart, or Hugo Marchand in “Giselle” is a unique moment. During previous exhibitions, I was able to speak with many visitors who had been deeply marked by these performances. I remember my mother, Tessa Beaumont, in “Salomé,” one of her signature roles, completely inhabited by her character, powerful, focused, and yet sick backstage something several spectators later spoke to me about with emotion, without ever having known anything about it at the time.
It is this sincere, almost organic emotion that we hope to rediscover through these images: the grace of Hannah O’Neill and Germain Louvet in “Le Parc” by Maria Helena Buckley, the intensity of Matthew Ball in “Swan Lake” by Matthew Brookes, the wonderful blend of sensuality, strength, and virtuosity embodied by Hugo Marchand in Ann Ray’s images, and also the insolence of Nureyev in front of Cecil Beaton’s lens.
All those years of training, those hours of work beforehand, the devotion to this more-than-demanding art that is dance, all those sacrifices, forgotten for an instant of grace, in the perfection and beauty of a gesture…
We are also taking the opportunity of this exhibition to renew our unconditional support for the work of Hugo Marchand and for his association promoting Dance. A devotion, professionalism, and generosity that command respect and encourage us, at our modest level, to do something.
