Amazons of Argentina
This Photographic Series of Artistic Portraits, recently conceived in Argentina (my country of origin) , draws its inspiration from the theme of “Traditional Women Amazons of Argentina”. Beyond a visual testimony, it stands as an aesthetic and cultural tribute to an equestrian tradition that intertwines history, identity, and the indomitable spirit of womanhood.
The Amazons of Argentina embody a singular equestrian tradition that weaves together history, artistry, and femininity. Their origins date back to the 19th century, when women of Buenos Aires’ high society rode “on the good side,” defying conventions while maintaining the decorum of their time. Over the decades, this practice evolved from social custom into a cultural emblem. Pioneering figures such as Ana Beker, the “Amazon of the Americas,” and the legendary “Blonde Gaucha,” charted paths of courage and freedom.
Today, Argentine Amazon Squads revive this heritage in competitions, exhibitions, and performances where elegance of attire, historical fidelity, and harmony with the horse converge into a living art. It is not merely an equestrian discipline, but a poetic expression that honors women on horseback, reaffirming their place within both memory and the present spirit of the nation.
