Danziger Gallery

Yesterday, we received this letter from James Danziger :

“I am pleased to announce several exciting evolutions for the gallery that will happen later this fall.

First is that in November the gallery will move to 76th and 5th where work will be exhibited in a three room salon overlooking Central Park. We will continue a regular exhibition schedule there but with pictures shown in a more personal way.

Secondly, I am excited to announce a collaboration that will give the gallery a regular presence in Los Angeles. Starting In November, Danziger Gallery will begin presenting exhibitions at the Peter Fetterman Gallery at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica. Our shows there will alternate between the main gallery and the project room and I look forward to engaging with the growing L.A. art scene and welcoming our west coast friends.

Before all of this happens, however, there will be two more exhibitions at 980 Madison. The first, starting today, September 8, will be a re-opening of Tod Papageorge’s wonderful “Acropolis” series, which had the misfortune of opening 10 days before the Covid closings. Tod’s luminous silver prints demonstrate what makes his photographs extraordinary and poetic, putting together the ancient and modern,
monument and tourist. The show will only be up for two weeks so please do not miss this!

Then starting September 24, we open a solo show of new work by Matthew Porter whose photographs I have long admired. Experimental and eclectic, Porter’s work weaves narratives not just from his images, but from the connective space between his pictures.

For now, our hours will be 12 to 5pm, Tuesday – Saturday, and by appointment outside of those hours by request to: [email protected]. We ask you to follow standard Covid protocol in the gallery with masks and social distancing.

My sincere best wishes and hope for the well-being of all as we make our way into the future.”
