Françoise Kirkland told us of the passing of Michael Rand. He was the Art Director and Managing Editor of the Sunday Times Magazine 30 years from 1962, his the credo was “grit plus glamour – fashion juxtaposed with war photography and pop art”. Françoise sent us this photograph by her husband Douglas Kirkland along with these few words.
“This is a message to my photographer friends : I just heard the sad news that the legendary Michael Rand, Art Director and Managing Editor of the Sunday Times Magazine died on Monday at the age of 96. Any of us who had the privilege to work with him will want to reflect on the immense influence he had in the photojournalism world.” – Françoise Kirkland
