Andréa Torres Balaguer exhibits at the in camera gallery. And Brigitte Ollier made this very beautiful comment!
Because she is comfortable with repetition, a guarantee of reflection, Andrea Torres Balaguer continued The Unknown, a formidable series imagined in 2017. “For me, each new image involves a subtle change and constitutes a step forward” , she says about these singular self-portraits, an assumed mise en abyme of her original identity, where there is the question of forgetting oneself in order to be reborn indefinitely. We remember how, with a sovereign brushstroke, the Spanish artist veils her face and imprints on it an invisible breath, a luminous breath, a calligraphy that defies all interpretation.
Continuation of this writing game with Hivernacle, her last series with the evocative title, Serre. She composed it after discovering Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) and his life-size herbal hand book, an inventory of a microscopic world that has become fabulous. Astonishment of the portraitist: “I had the impression that Blossfeldt represented the flowers as characters, which is the opposite of what I do, that is to say represent someone likely to evoke a still life. A challenge therefore for Andrea Torres Balaguer, also seeing in his process of working alone an equivalence to growing in greenhouses: “I take photos at home, calmly, in the heart of a comfortable and protective environment, like in a greenhouse where plants and flowers grow in optimal conditions. »
Hivernacle, harvest of prodigal femininity, surprises with its contemplative rigor and its eclipse of colors. As usual, Andrea Torres Balaguer carefully chose the clothes, especially their volumes, approaching as closely as possible a sculpted form. “Fewer elements, more power,” she notes happily. Without forgetting the magic brushstroke, both erasing and appearing, an inimitable signature: “It is a moment of tension which can change a room in a spectacular way and which will bring the final movement to the photograph. »
