Gil Rigoulet : Molitor, Summer 1985

Preview

Thirty years later, Gil Rigoulet and (M) Editions present for the first time photographs taken in 1985 at the Molitor swimming pool. The book will be launched at Artcurial on Friday, November 20, and a signing will take place the following day, Saturday, November 21 at 3 PM.

The publication includes a limited boxed edition of fifteen emblematic prints of the Molitor swimming pool in 1985. These are singular, timeless images from an era when everything was allowed. The artist mingles with the crowd of naked bodies and topless women who are carefree and indifferent to the camera.

I would hold my camera at the water level, completely undisturbed, uninhibited, without any authorization. This was a time of leisure swimming pools. Everybody was flirting, cooing, daydreaming. Time passed slowly. We were intoxicated with children’s voices, inebriated with the odors of chlorine and the erotic tension in the air. As one exited one’s numbered cabin, eyes would meet, slightly feverish, barely veiled glances, and people would go for a drink at Pacific Molitor to prolong the magic. The swimming pool, those were the days!” Gil Rigoulet
