Galerie XII, Los Angeles, is hosting Charlotte Mano‘s first exhibition in the United States, through June 21. It is accompanied by these few sentences.
The Mythologies series, a project undertaken in 2021, can be seen as an aesthetic reflection, a personal meditation.
With Mythologies, Charlotte Mano creates digital photographs taken by the light of a full moon, self-portraits taken in her native region, north of the Landes region, before producing a direct UV print on brushed aluminum.
What is revealed in Mythologies is a state of ecstasy, a return to oneself, a call for calm. As always with Charlotte Mano, we perceive a kind of silence, a melancholic grace. These works seem to be refuge-images allowing the artist to materialize the inexpressible that surpasses her but also, more broadly, to offer each of us the opportunity to question what determines our personal destiny and that of the world.
