The Galerie Pome Turbil presents Dramagraphies, an exhibition by Michel Lagarde, accompanied by this text by Bruno Delarue.
With his Dramagraphies, wholly imaginary scenes in equally fictitious places in which he takes on every role, Michel Lagarde casts on life an eye as sharp as that of realist cinema.
As the sole character, multiplied at will in this comedy of situations, he concentrates in each image the sum of his various performing‑arts trades: he invents the script, builds the sets, adjusts the light to the millimetre, and pot belly first takes on the look of every character in the human comedy. In short, the only thing real here is him: a thoroughly mischievous fellow who has understood that humanity is not necessarily what it ought to be, and that you’re never better served than by yourself.
The brilliance of the construction of these images, combined with omnipresent humor, makes this work one of the funniest and most bewitching—while remaining one of the most biting visions in contemporary photography.
