Galerie Au Bonheur du Jour/Nicole Canet presented at the end of the year an exhibition of Claude Alexandre. It was entitled Claude Alexandre (1940-2010) Photographies 1974-1990. Fétichisme -SM –Travestisme. Here it is.
Claude Alexandre was one of the greatest French photographers of the body and desire. She discovered photography during the era of sexual liberation, which she followed with her keen eye through attempts to transgress the new sexual order: homosexuality, fetishism, sadomasochism, envelopment, cross-dressers and transgender people.
Claude said:
« The body is an obsession, or rather what there is in the body; behind physical appearance, what does this body mean?
And it is an enormous field of investigation – without end.
The body, in cases of marginality and ambiguity: that of the double we carry within us ».
